Australians are backing the clean energy future — and fast.
As the Melbourne Age reported over the weekend, household battery installations are surging, with uptake in South Australia alone already 5.7 times higher than last year.
So how did we get here? A few theories:
Trust – households are now appearing more confident to invest when policy settings are correct and stable.
Momentum – rooftop solar is already the grid’s largest generator, and batteries are rapidly catching up.
Workforce – delivering the “battery revolution” will require thousands of skilled Australians across installation, engineering, planning and beyond. We need to develop and grow this 'workforce of the future' ASAP, and we need to do it in ways that provide good, well-paying work.
The opportunity is enormous: a cleaner, more resilient grid, up to 10% emissions reductions from electricity, and a new wave of long-term jobs across the country.
At the Australian Renewables Academy, we’re focused on making sure the people, skills and training are in place to match this demand. The rooftop surge is here — now let’s build the workforce to power it.
